POLPORA Copernicus

Polpora Copernicus

In order to pay tribute to the achievements of our outstanding astronomer, we have prepared a new model of a mechanical watch, in which, with a few movements of the wrist or the crown, you can set in motion a small sub-dial with a counterweight referring to our planet – Earth, operating on a golden background symbolizing the Sun.

The watch was released on the 550th anniversary of the birth and 480th anniversary of the death of the Polish polymath – Nicolaus Copernicus.

With this watch, we pay tribute to Nicolaus Copernicus and his heliocentric theory, described in the work De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres), published in the year of the author’s death. On the watch dial, above the sixth hour, we placed a symbol of watchmaking elegance – a small sub-dial. In its background, through planetary grinding, we obtained the effect of microcircles, which were then electroplated with yellow gold. We enclosed the whole with a round gilded frame, which separates the small sub-dial from the rest of the dial. This small element constitutes the heart of the dial and in a simplified manner refers to the Sun, around which the Earth moves.

We finished the main space of the dial with a striking radial guilloché, the center of which also constitutes the boundaries of the small sub-dial. Moving further, we selected the space at the end of the guilloche – again through planetary grinding, and then placed simple and clear hour markers electroplated with yellow gold.

The outer circle of the dial is a minute scale placed at the next, lowest level, where we printed every fifth minute, which is also an extension of the hour marker, with gold paint, and highlighted all the others with classic black. Using the same color, we also made the classic POLPORA logo with the note AUTOMATIC, already used in our first watches from 2006, and a delicate Made in Poland symbol on the opposite edge of the dial.

We enclosed the entire simplified solar system in a 40-millimeter case made of stainless steel. Here, contrasting finishing techniques also intertwine – alternating from the bezel to the case back – brushing and high-gloss polishing. It is worth noting the brushed finish effect along the entire side edge of the case, which is considered difficult to achieve.

We have equipped both the upper and lower crystals with sapphire glass, with the upper one additionally coated with an anti-reflective coating on the inside. The case back, engraved with the limitation number and watch data, leaves additional space for adding individual engraving for the user.

On the back of the case, we can observe the operation of a Swiss automatic movement – Sellita SW260-1, mounted on 31 stones, decorated with blue screws, pearl and snake cuts, and finally, covered with a black rotor with a gold POLPORA logo. The movement was prepared for us with Elabore adjustment. Additionally, we individually test and adjust each watch before it is delivered to the customer.

We placed the case on an extremely striking, yet elegant, crocodile leather strap, equipped with internal ventilation perforation and a fabric loop holding the outer loop to prevent excessive sliding towards the watch.

We deliver the watch in elegant handmade packaging made of mahogany and gray linen. Inside, you will also find a practical suede pocket where the watch documents are placed. The packaging is additionally protected by an occasional cardboard dustcover with a gold print – containing the symbol of Nicolaus Copernicus’ discovery, the years of the Polish astronomer’s life, and the POLPORA logo.

Like every watch from our manufactory, the Copernicus is also a limited edition watch.

We will produce exactly 100 pieces, each with an individual number.

The watch is designed and manufactured in Poland.
